Beautifully presented hotel in an amazing cliff side setting with stunning views of the bay, BUT… There seems to be an apparent lack of comprehensive staff training and management. We had consistently ‘average at best’ service for all 4 of the breakfasts during our visit. Never shown to the table, no explanation on our first morning of how things worked, not offered coffee/tea, had to ask for napkins/cutlery. Breakfast finished at 10 but when I asked for another coffee at 10.05 while several tables around were still eating I was told I couldn’t have one as they had shut the coffee machine down for cleaning. Would have been nice if someone had gone around and asked if anyone wanted another one before shutting down the machine. The pool area is great but there was no service to loungers or tables poolside although there’s a pool bar with a barman who was never busy and 3 guys behind the towel station most of the time. One day we spent 3 hours poolside and finished drinks and towels around the pool were not cleared during that time at all. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant on the first night and unfortunately it really wasn’t great so we didn’t visit again. This hotel could easily be 5 stars with an improvement in management and training. Saying that, Uyen on reception was fantastic and very helpful in organising our boat tours and transfers.

A great hotel to stay and have some well-deserved downtime in the middle of an active holiday

This is truly a beautiful hotel which took us about 3.5 hours to get to from Hanoi. We spent four weeks travelling throughout Cambodia and Vietnam. We organised to spend five nights in Cat Ba, mid-journey for some well-earned downtime. The hotel was a perfect place to spend those days. We opted to do day trips out to the bays rather than an overnight on one of the larger boats. It was the right choice for us as we did not want to spend time transiting. The hotel is hard to describe as it is truly beautiful and photographs do not do it justice. We spent a couple of days just hanging out around the hotel with some walks around the beaches and into town. It was difficult to leave to go on tours but such a wonderful place to come back to. The hotel has many wonderful options to spend time relaxing. It was spectacular, from the rooftop pool with glorious views, especially at sunset, to the deck pool with the waves crashing in full view. The hotel is well-designed to feel both luxurious and comfortable. You can opt to lay by the pool reading and taking in the view, have a massage, or drink a cocktail at the swim-up bar, hotel lobby bar, or on the deck overlooking the pool. All great ways to spend that downtime. The only thought I had was that it might be nice to have a Tai Chi class on the very top deck at the start of the day. There is a little beach next to the hotel which you can also spend some time on. The bed was one of the most comfortable we had during our trip. Breakfast was amazing as were the cocktails. There could be some slight adjustments to the dinner menu. I found the dishes a bit bland and tasteless, with some repeated dishes at breakfast. There was wrong with that and it was great to try what the restaurant offered. I wondered if this was part of the reason the dinner dishes were so bland. Also, I noticed in another MGallery hotel that they had a list in the cupboard with the price of objects you use whilst at the hotel (eg laundry bag, if people wanted to take them). This might reduce confusion for people who would not have realised the flip flops are recycled as this is not something that occurs in other countries. That was a very small downside. The hotel is a little bit outside of town but it is an easy 10-minute walk on a relatively flat path into town. If you were feeling like the walk was a bit much there is a little golf cart-type vehicle to take you into town with a cost of 20,000 Dong. I would highly recommend the hotel - it was divine.

Well located, great view. I loved the design of the whole rooftop complex, including the bar and the surrounding pools. F&B menu pricing is ridiculously overpriced, that said, the food I tried was well executed, both from the standard menu and the Japanese menu. I absolutely loved the retro mosaic tiling, and with a variety of designs no less. I found 2 issues of inconvenience with my room: the lack of power sockets, and the shower dramatically switching between very hot vs very cold as I made tiny turns on the knob.

Enjoyed everything; beautiful hotel and sea view room; fresh swimming pools and adjoining beach, excellent service and easy communication with all staff, and location close for walking to or catching a ride with short shuttle to Cat Ba town, and for our full day-trip to stunning surrounding bays. Excellent choice

Perfect location for a luxurious stay on Cat Ba. Our room had a wonderful view overlooking the beach and a very comfortable bed. We ate dinner a couple of times in the hotel restaurant and the food was perfection; - the staff were all very polite and helpful. Special thanks to Uyen at reception for her excellent English and her help with arranging our transfer back to the airport.
